How To Transfer Away From GoToNames.Com

A few years ago I purchased a few domains with LimeDomains (now GoToNames).  I have not been overly thrilled about the lack of customer service and the occasional server downtimes.

I recently decided to transfer my domains to another provider, after receiving an invite for Google Domains.  The first steps of the process were very simple, however when I needed to get my EPP/transfer code is when things got complicated.  My initial thought was to send GoToNames support an email.  However after waiting a few days there was no response.  Then I began to look into the Support Forums on the website, all I could find was complaints from others asking for help with the same issue as me.   I could not find a phone number for GoToNames anywhere on the website, so I decided do a WhoIs search for domain, hoping that they would have a phone number listed as the Registrar.  Well to my surprise eNom.com was listed as the Registrar and GoToNames was listed as the Admin. There was however a phone number listed for both.

First I called the number for GoToDomains, I received a recoding saying that they do not provide phone support and I would need to contact them via online support.  Next I called eNom to see if they could provide assistance, they simply said they that GoToNames was a reseller of theirs and I would need to contact them for the release of my domain.

I felt like I was going around in circles.  I decided to submit a ticket using the Seek Assistance section on their website.  To my surprise I was provided the help I needed.  I would have assumed that my email to their support center would have accomplished this same thing, but I was wrong.

Just some additional items I found during my research, it appears that GoToNames.com is apart of Netfronts.com.  There are several other alternative names that NetFronts.com uses as a reseller of domains.  Phones numbers are (800) 491-2576 and (970) 373-1079, email support is support@limeDomains.com.

To avoid all the troubles I had during my process of transferring my domain, I have provided step-by-step instructions that will be required to transfer domain and how to generate your EPP/transfer code without needing any assistance from support.

How to make Domain Public
  • Log into your GoToName Account
  • Click on Domain Privacy on lefthand side page
  • Select the Domain you wish to transfer
  • Under Actions, Click Make Public

How to Unlock Domain
  • Log into your GoToName Account
  • Click on Domain Locking/Unlocking on lefthand side page
  • Under Status, Click Unlock on the domain you wish to unlock

How to Generate an EPP/transfer code
  • Log into your GoToName Account
  • On the default screen, under Account Summary, select the domain you wish to transfer.
  • On the following page you see a small box to right hand side of screen.  There will be several options, but the one you need to select is Manage Secret Key.
  • The next screen will presented with a message about Secret Keys (EPP Codes).  To receive your EPP/transfer code, click on “To have the email sent to youremailaddress@email.com, click here.”

Good luck with your transfer.  Let me know if this helps any of you out.
